Another non-inquiry wraps up – rural health
What the rural health inquiry didn’t want you to know
South coast OBGYN resigns, citing ‘untenable’ position with unsafe practices in Southern NSW LHD
Long-serving Eurobodalla obstetrician and gynaecologist Michael Holland says he is resigning due to what he describes as alleged unsafe practices within the Southern NSW Local Health District. “It completely ignored the root cause of our unsafe neo natal services…that is, the Southern NSW LHD…are failing to provide paediatric services to the largest rural maternity service in our region.”
Divide over hearings in rural and regional healthcare
Over the past several months, the New South Wales parliament has been holding hearings on rural and regional healthcare. An inquiry was set up last year to look at the challenges smaller communities face when accessing health services.
A new survey conducted by the Bureau of Health Information and released by NSW Ministry of Health reveals how rural patients feel about their quality of care.
Lorraine Long is the founder of Medical Error Action Group and made a submission to the health inquiry. She spoke with ABC NewsRadio’s Thomas Oriti about her views on regional care in New South Wales.

Watch out! Speak up! You’re next.
You may need your rural hospital one day and you need to speak up now to see it improves and continually improves. You won’t offend your town, you will save its people.
